Understanding college options is the first step to making an informed choice. In this activity, students will learn the pros and cons of a variety of choices they will have when determining their personal college fit, such as:
- Types of colleges – Liberal Arts, Secular State Public, & Christian
- College core values and how this impacts one’s experience and potential outcomes
- Size of colleges – small, medium, & large
- Location – far from or close to home, in-state or out-of-state
- Living on or off campus
- Seeking a specific major or a major that includes a wider variety of transferable skills
- Cost of colleges – private versus state public
- Entrance requirements and their impact on one’s experience
Here’s how the activity works!
- Print the “game cards”. Laminate them if possible.
- Read the front side of each set (such as “live on campus” and “live off campus” and ask students to stand on one or the other side of the room based on their choice.
- THEN, ask a student to read aloud the back side of those cards to learn valuable insights!
Some info is Texas-specific and may require inputting your knowledge of programs and colleges in your state.
